Philosophy of Education (Updated May 2025)
5 Core Pillars of My Teaching Philosophy
1. Leading by Example: Enthusiasm is contagious. When I approach a subject with excitement and curiosity, my students are more likely to engage and invest in their own learning.
2. Differentiation & Safe Culture: Every child is unique. Teaching in Seminole County, FL—where classrooms included gifted learners, students with learning disabilities, and diverse socioeconomic backgrounds—taught me to differentiate instruction and foster a classroom culture of respect, trust, and support.
3. Literacy as a Cornerstone:“Every child has the right to read and to access the world through the power of words.”
4. Real-World Interdisciplinary Relevance: Integrating technology, multimedia, and real-world applications so students see the value of what they are learning.
5. Flexibility: Adapting plans in real time based on formative data and student needs—whether in-person or in virtual classrooms.
Philosophy of Instructional Design (UDL, Sound Design & Andragogy)
Pillar 1 · Accessibility
Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Ensuring all learning materials are accessible regardless of ability or background by providing multiple means of representation, expression, and engagement—from captioned multimedia to screen-reader-friendly layouts.
Pillar 2 · Sound Design Principles
Clarity, Coherence & Evidence
Grounded in ADDIE, Quality Matters, and cognitive load theory: organizing content logically with clear learning objectives, clean visual hierarchy, interactive check-ins, and continuous formative evaluation.
Pillar 3 · Andragogy
Designing for Adult Learners
Adult learners bring rich prior experience and need self-directed, problem-centered instruction with immediate workplace relevance—whether onboarding medical staff or coaching K–5 teachers in Structured Literacy.
Partnered with the HR Director of Florida Eye Specialists (180 employees across 15 clinic locations in Jacksonville, FL) to transform a manual, paper-heavy new-hire orientation into a scalable, hybrid microlearning onboarding program in Canvas LMS.
Impact & Process: Conducted a full HR Needs Assessment survey & infographic analysis, authored a comprehensive Technology Integration Plan, built interactive modules with Canva, PowerPoint, and AI voiceover, and created a custom Canvas Orientation Help Guide for staff with varying digital literacy.
